H. Shirley Adams, the daughter of Merrill Grant and Helen Nora (Fischer) Deatz, was born September 12, 1931, in rural Rock Port, Missouri. She attended Rock Port High School, graduating in 1949.
On February 4, 1951, Shirley was united in marriage to Donald C. Adams at the United Methodist Church in Rock Port. They became the parents of three children, Mark, Lynn and Reese.
Shirley was employed by the Atchison Soil and Conservation Service in Rock Port for a few years. She then worked at the Atchison County Library in Fairfax, Missouri, for 35 years and was the custodian at the Fairfax Presbyterian Church for over 30 years.
Shirley was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fairfax. She enjoyed counted cross stitch, reading, gardening and tending to her flowers in the yard. Shirley especially loved spending time with her grandkids and made sure they were “well spoiled.” Don passed away May 10, 2015. Shirley passed away Monday, January 9, 2017, at Bryan LGH East Medical Center, Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 85.
In addition to her parents and husband, Don, Shirley was preceded in death by infant brother, Curtis Deatz. Survivors include children, Mark Adams and wife, Sherry, and Lynn Adams, all of Fairfax, and Reese Adams and wife, Rebecca, Rock Port; grandchildren, Jeff Buhrmann and wife, Jill, Littleton, Colorado, Bryan Adams and wife, Tisha, Kansas City, Missouri, Devin Adams, Fairfax, and Juleighanne Adams, Rock Port; great-grandchildren, Cole Adams and Elizabeth Buhrmann; brother, Duane Deatz and wife, Barb, Mound City, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service: 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 11, 2017, First Presbyterian Church, Fairfax.
Interment: English Grove Cemetery, Fairfax.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 11, at First Presbyterian Church, prior to the service.
