Harold LeRoy “Roy” McIntosh, Ph.D., the son of Harold Joseph and Mary Margaret (Gigeous) McIntosh, was born December 25, 1931 in Fairfax, Missouri. Roy graduated from Tarkio High School, Tarkio, Missouri, in 1949. Roy entered the United States Army and served his country from 1953 to 1955.

On June 1, 1953, Roy was united in marriage to Gayla Arnold in Nebraska. They became the parents of three children, John, Kim, and Blake. Roy made his home in Tarkio to the present time. Following Roy’s honorable discharge, he took advantage of the GI Bill and began an extensive university education. He graduated from Tarkio College in 1953 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. While teaching at Tarkio High School, Roy and his family would live in Colorado and Oregon while he finished his Master’s Degree, also in Physics and Chemistry from University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado, and his Ph.D. in Education Administration from Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon in 1969.

Roy then began teaching in the science department of Tarkio College and later became the Science Division Chairman. Sometime later, Roy became the Dean of Education and eventually the President of Tarkio College, which he held until retiring in 1989.

Roy was approached by the engineering firm Black and Veatch in Overland Park, Kansas, to provide additional training in Physics for their engineers. This he enjoyed although living away from Tarkio was uncomfortable. Roy was asked to return to Tarkio High School and teach science, retiring finally in the late 2000’s. Gayla passed away in 2011. Roy passed away, Saturday, October 17, 2020, at Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care, Tarkio, at the age of 88.

Roy was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Tarkio. He enjoyed golfing, regripping clubs for local golfers, and going for coffee at Grebe’s with his buddies. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, dance recitals, concerts, award ceremonies, and any other activities.

Besides his parents and wife, Gayla, Roy was preceded in death by son, Blake McIntosh. Survivors include children, John (Vicki) McIntosh, Cleveland, Tennessee and Kim (Paul) Lennemann, Glenwood, Iowa; grandchildren, Amy (Scott) Carter, Dana (Brian) Storey, Brent (Shannon) McIntosh, Kelly (Kyle) Stokes, Bethany (Andy) Gurbal, Eric (Jakkie) Lennemann, Erin (Drew) Potter, Nick Lennemann (Megan Kiedrowski), Dustin McIntosh (Cathy Yeh), and Lauren McIntosh; great grandchildren, Rebecca Paige Carter, Carson and Connor Storey, Jayce, Blake, and Kenna Lennemann, Addison, Kade, Elizabeth, and Quinn Potter; brothers, Ray (Barbara) McIntosh, Harlan, Iowa and Jim (Norma) McIntosh, Savannah, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
