Harold S. Poppa
1928-2012
Kansas City, Missouri

 

Harold Stanley Poppa, the son of Henry and Mary (Kahle) Poppa was born June 19, 1928, in Rock Port, Missouri. He attended Rock Port High School, graduating in 1946.

 

On June 26, 1949, Harold was united in marriage to Nancy E. Long at the Lutheran Church in Rock Port. They made their home in Rock Port for a short time. Harold entered the United States Navy as a Seabee, serving his country overseas during the Korean War. After the war, they made their home in the Greater Kansas City area to the present time. Harold passed away April 9, 2012, at the Liberty Hospital, Liberty, Missouri, at the age of 83.

 

Harold was employed by Certain-Teed Fiberglass, Fairfax, Kansas, and the Clorox Company, Kansas City, retiring from both. He was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Kansas City.

 

Besides his parents, Harold was preceded in death by two brothers, Grant and Burdette Poppa. Survivors include wife, Nancy, of the home; daughter, Kathy Surprenant (Joseph) of Kansas City, Missouri; four grandchildren, Andrea Cowper (Bill) of Michigan, Natalie Whitham (Anthony) and Kathryn and Phillip Surprenant, Kansas City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Services: 2:00 P.M., Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
Interment: Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port.
The family will receive friends 1:00-1:50 P.M., Saturday, April 14, 2012, prior to the service, at Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
