1934-2013
St. Joseph, Missouri

 

Harry Eugene (Gene) Meek, the son of Albert Harry and Marie (Cook) Meek was born January 21, 1934, in Tarkio, Missouri. He graduated from Tarkio High School in 1952, and attended two years at Tarkio College.

 

On February 3, 1959, Gene was united in marriage to Lida Mabrey in Juarez, Mexico. They became the parents of two daughters, Teresa and Brenda.

 

Gene was employed by the Missouri Highway Department as a highway surveyor. During its construction, Gene surveyed I-29 from St. Joseph, Missouri, to the Iowa border and retired after 30 years. Gene was a member of the St. Joseph Masonic Lodge, #78 and American Legion Pony Express Post # 359, both of St. Joseph, and was a former member of the Allen-Schiffern American Legion Post # 199, Tarkio. Gene passed away Friday, November 29, 2013, at La Verna Village, St. Joseph, at the age of 79.

 

Besides his parents, Gene was preceded in death by brother, Dean Meek; and sisters, Martha James and Harriet Meek. Survivors include daughters, Teresa Cox-Stanton and husband, Michael, Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Brenda Hainey and husband, Adam, St. Joseph; grandsons, Brandon and Nathaniel Cox and Joshua Hainey; great-grandsons, Benjamin, Austin and Peyton Cox; former wife and constant companion, Lida Meek; sister, Sandra Smith and husband, Gerald.

 

Graveside Memorial Service and Inurnment: 1:00 P.M., Friday, December 6, 2013, Home Cemetery, Tarkio, Missouri.
There is no visitation.
