Helen Barr
May 24, 1934 - November 29, 2024
Helen Marceline Barr, the daughter of Carl Leo and Catherine Marie (Wortmen) Uhing, was born May 24, 1934, in West Point, Nebraska. She attended Prairie View Country School until the 8th grade. Helen then attended Tekamah High School, Tekamah, Nebraska, graduating in 1951.
On June 15, 1953, Helen was united in marriage to Merle Dean Barr at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Tekamah. They became the parents of four children, Larry, Robin, Carla and Kim. Merle passed away in September of 2017.
Helen was employed for the Defense Plant in Mead, Nebraska working on the conveyor line, where she made explosives. The couple then moved to Omaha, Nebraska and later Rock Port, Missouri, where she was then employed by Cooper Nuclear Station, Brownville, Nebraska. In 1971, Helen and Merle purchased “Dairy Diner”, Fairfax, Missouri, owning and operating it until retiring in the mid 1990’s.
Helen was an active member of the St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Tarkio, where she served in many capacities. Helen passed away Friday, November 29, 2024, at Community Hospital-Fairfax, Fairfax, at the age of 90.
Besides her parents and husband, Merle Barr, Helen was preceded in death by son, Kim Barr; 10 siblings. Survivors include children, Larry Barr, Dayton, Ohio, Robin (Jim) Whittington, Fairfax, and Carla (Gary) Riley, Tarkio; grandchildren, Toby, Carrie, Jamie, Tara, Shannon, and Bridget; great grandchildren, Austin, Remington, Jordan, Lexi, Will, Payton, and William; numerous nieces and nephews.
Christian Funeral Outside Mass: 10:00 A.M., Saturday, December 7, 2024, St. Paul the Apostle Church, Tarkio.
The family will receive friends from 9:00-10:00 A.M., Saturday, December 7, prior to the service. There is no open visitation.
Graveside Service for Helen and Kim Barr: 1:30 P.M., Saturday, December 7, Tekamah Cemetery, Tekamah, Nebraska.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Helen Barr Memorial Fund for final expenses.
