Helen R. Bowen, the daughter of Ruford and Nellie (Hall) Kuhns, was born November 10, 1924, in Hamburg, Iowa. She attended schools in Thurman and Hamburg, Iowa.
On May 20, 1942, Helen was united in marriage to William Richard (Dick) Bowen in Maryville, Missouri. They became the parents of three sons, Gary, Mike and Rick. The family moved up and down the Missouri River due to Dick’s employment, including Council Bluffs, Iowa, Corning, Missouri, Nishnabotna, Missouri, Decatur, Nebraska, Blair, Nebraska, Rock Port, Missouri, and Nebraska City, Nebraska.
Helen was employed as a laundry supervisor at a nursing home and managed a laundromat in Blair. She was also a stay-at-home mom, raising and caring for her three sons. Dick passed away January 3, 2003.
Helen was a faithful member of the Rock Port Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, bird watching and tending to her flowers. For the last five years, Helen was a resident of Carter Place in Blair, where she was honored as Queen on Valentine’s Day. Helen passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at Carter Place at the age of 93.
In addition to her parents and husband Dick, Helen was preceded in death by son, Rick Bowen, two grandsons, Rick Bowen and Rich Livengood, sister, Hazel Campbell, brothers, Bobby and David Kuhns, and brother-in-law, Marvin Walker. Survivors include two sons, Gary Bowen and wife, Donna, Carson, Iowa, and Mike Bowen and wife, Linda, Blair; grandchildren, Matthew (Jennifer), John (Lisa), Amy (Brian), Corby, and Annette (Ross); granddaughter-in-law, Heather Livengood; great-grandchildren, Kacie (Ryan), Daniel, Myla, Blake, Drayk, Jossilyn, Hailey and Everly; great-great-grandchildren, Bowen, Laila, and Ava; brother, Lonnie (Becky) Kuhns, Rock Port; sister, Cathy Walker, Jefferson City, Missouri; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M., Monday, November 12, 2018, Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port
Interment: Grange Hall Cemetery, Rock Port.
Open visitation begins 10:00 A.M., Sunday, November 11, Minter Funeral Chapel. There is no scheduled family visitation.
