Herbert Dale Hoeppner, the son of Herbert August and Juanita Marie (Shier) Hoeppner, was born August 31, 1937 in Mayview, Missouri. Dale graduated from Mayview High School in 1955.  He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from University of Central Missouri (formerly Central Missouri State University). Dale was first employed as an accountant for the Patent Scaffolding Company and H.D. Lee Co, both in Kansas City, Missouri. He was then transferred with H.D. Lee Co. to Minneapolis, Minnesota.

 

On June 12, 1965, Dale was united in marriage to Carol LaMoyne Mengel at the Blue Ridge Presbyterian Church in Raytown, Missouri. They made their first home in Minneapolis. He and Carol owned and operated the L’il General Convenience Store. Their 3 children, Jeannie, Sally and Stan were born in Minneapolis. In 1971 the family moved to Tarkio, Missouri. They owned and operated the Western Auto store till 1989. Dale was then appointed Atchison County Collector by the Missouri Governor. He was re-elected and held this position until retiring in 2003.

 

Dale was a member of the Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity, Tarkio Presbyterian Church,  Rock Port Rotary Club, Rock Port, Missouri and was a Boy Scout leader. He loved fishing and deer hunting. He especially enjoyed riding his scooter around Tarkio and visiting with many friends. His fondest memories are spending summers with his family at Edgewild Resort on Fox Lake in Minnesota.

 

Dale passed away Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Community Hospital-Fairfax, Fairfax, Missouri at the age of 84.

 

Besides his parents, Dale was preceded in death by sisters, Shirley Tye and Elaine Nalley. Survivors include wife, Carol Hoeppner, Tarkio; children, Jeannie (John) Montanelli, Nemaha, Nebraska, Sally (Bob) Landreth, Kansas City, Missouri, Stan Hoeppner, Tarkio; grandsons, Nicholas and Danny Landreth; brother, Carl (Helen) Hoeppner, Mayview; sisters-in-law, Norma Storms, Raytown, Doris Crouch, Fort Worth, Texas, Nancy Heller, Independence, Missouri; brother-in-law, Lloyd Mengel, Pensacola, Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 12, 2022, Tarkio Presbyterian Church, Tarkio.

The family will receive friends 6:00-7:00 PM, Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.

A Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to Rock Port Rotary Club, Rock Port, Missouri or Tarkio Nutrition Site.
