Imogene (Chambers) Mather, the daughter of John and Bertha (Wheat) Chambers, was born February 4, 1917, in Rockbridge, Missouri. She attended school at Daleview High School, rural Fairfax.
On August 26, 1933, Imogene was united in marriage to Lewis M. (Luke) Mather, in Tarkio, Missouri. In 1936, they moved to the community of Westboro, Missouri. In 1943, they started Mather Construction. Their two sons later joined them in 1959, forming Lewis Mather and Sons, Inc. After Luke passed away in 1987, Imogene sold her share of the business to grandson, Phillip Mather. During the 1940’s, she attended school for Red Cross training and upon completion of the course, began teaching the classes. Imogene was employed by the United States Postal Service, in Westboro, for 18 years, retiring as Postmaster.
Imogene loved to travel and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of the Westboro United Methodist Church and of the Westboro United Methodist Women. She attended and participated in a ten year Bible study course, which included the study of the entire Bible. Imogene passed away July 27, 2012, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 95.
Besides her parents and husband, Imogene was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Carol Mather; four brothers, Ova, Erna, Curtis and John Chambers; three sisters, Beulah Carter, Ella Faye Austin and Marjorie Owens; and two infant siblings. Survivors include sons, Maurice Dean Mather and wife, Patricia J., Shenandoah, Iowa and Phillip Duane (Butch) Mather and wife, Norma J., Westboro; ten grandchildren, Phillip (Monica) Mather, Janice (Scott) Cooper, Diane (Craig) Livengood, Cindy Livengood, Jennifer (Corey) Lesher, Krista (Mike) Eash, Lewis Dean (Zeke) (Michelle) Mather, James (Lee Carren) Mather, Wayne (Desra) Coggins and Matt (Kelli) Coggins; thirty-one great grandchildren; twenty-five great-great grandchildren; brother, James E. Chambers, Tarkio; and sister-in-law, Mary Chambers, Florence, Alabama.
Services: 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 31, 2012, United Methodist Church, Westboro.
Interment: Center Grove Cemetery, Westboro.
The family will receive friends 6:00-7:00 P.M., Monday, July 30, 2012, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, Missouri.
