Irene Smith
March 5, 1930 - January 2, 2022
Irene Smith, the daughter of Emmett and Nora (Turner) Vance, was born March 5, 1930 in Tarkio, Missouri. Irene attended Tarkio schools.
On March 5, 1948, Irene was united in marriage to Ira Paul Smith, at his parent’s home outside of Hamburg, Iowa. They became the parents of three children, Carolyn Irene, Billy Paul, and Darrell Ray.
Irene was a homemaker where she raised and cared for her children. Later, they owned and operated the Dairy Fresh and the 59er Café both on Highway 59 in Tarkio. Irene treated her customers like they were her family, knowing where they wanted to sit and what they wanted to eat.
At Irene’s passing she was the oldest member of the Assembly of God Church of Tarkio, which she joined at an early age. Her family was her life. She enjoyed cooking for her family, especially making cherry pies with homemade ice cream. Irene was a hard worker and enjoyed keeping a perfect yard. Irene passed away Sunday, January 2, 2022, in Mesa, Arizona, at the age of 91.
Besides her parents and husband, Ira Paul, Irene was preceded in death by an infant daughter; siblings, Paul, Robert, Darrell and Norman Vance, Roberta Mae Vance, Margaret Hannah, Alice Campbell, Dorothy Ballinger, half siblings Don and Roy Vance, Reva Wright. Survivors include children, Carolyn Irene Smith, Mesa Arizona, Billy Paul (Teresa) Smith, Tarkio, and Darrell Ray (Diana) Smith, Diamond, Missouri; grandchildren, Brett Patrick Smith, Dallas, Texas, Melanie Ann (David) Freeland, Los Angeles, California, Timothy Ray (Kristen) Smith, Gastonia, North Carolina, Travis Heath (Charla) Smith, Overland Park, Kansas and Tyler Clay (Lindsey) Smith, Joplin, Missouri; great grandchildren Savanna, Dylan, Morgan, Kaden, Beckett, Luke, Emerson, Peyton, Maxwell, Bodhi, and Crosby; siblings, David Vance, Tarkio, Evaline Riley, Fairfax, Missouri, Martha Gibbons, Platte City, Missouri, and Mary Hope, Tarkio; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 15, 2022, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
Open visitation begins 9:00 A.M., Friday, January 14, Davis Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 A.M., Saturday, prior to the service.
Interment: Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
Memorials: Assembly of God Church, Tarkio.
