Jack D. Gibbons the son of William Harvey and Bessie (Butts) Gibbons was born January 24, 1934 in Greenville, Missouri. Jack’s family moved to Tarkio, Missouri in 1945.

 

Jack’s first job was working on the farm for Carlie Erdman at the age of eleven. In 1956 Jack entered the United States Army and served his country until 1958 at Travis Air Force Base in California. After returning to Tarkio, Jack resided on and farmed the Bob and Katie Graff farm northeast of Tarkio from 1960 to 2000.

 

On January 9, 1961 Jack was united in marriage to Martha Vance in St. Louis, Illinois. They made their home on the farm and became the parents of three daughters, Tami, Jana, and Tina. Jack became a member of the Tarkio Assembly of God in 1962, where he served as a deacon and Men’s Fellowship President. Jack loved farming and working as a mechanic. After retiring in 2000 Jack and Martha moved to Platte City to be closer to their family. Jack passed away September 4, 2011 at his home in Platte City at the age of 77.

 

Besides his parents Jack was preceded in death by siblings, Charlie and Kenneth Gibbons, Agnes Hale, twin sisters, Nora Hardwick and Flora Stane, Jack’s twin brother Gene Gibbons, and Joe Gibbons, who is the twin of surviving brother Henry Gibbons; and infant twin granddaughters. Survivors include wife, Martha Gibbons, Platte City, daughters, Tami McCurdy and her husband Jon, Gardner, Kansas, Jana Hessemyer and her husband Kevin, Platte City, Tina Sutter and her husband Jason, Platte City; six grandchildren, Ashley McCurdy, Aaron, Megan and Logan Hessemyer, Reid and Jack Sutter; brother, Henry Gibbons; Special Friends, David, Rachel and Denise McEnaney, and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services:
1:00 pm Wednesday, September 7, 2011, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, Missouri.
Interment: Home Cemetery, Tarkio
Open visitation will begin 10:00 am Tuesday, September 6, Davis Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends Wednesday September 7, 12:00 – 12:50 pm, prior to the funeral service.
