James R. “Jim” Postlewait was born on February 6, 1918, to Russell Graham and Leah (Bradley) Postlewait in Tarkio, Missouri. Jim attended Central Country School before graduating from Tarkio High School in 1935.

 

On January 1, 1938, Jim was united in marriage to Marjorie L. Cook. They made their home in the Tarkio area, where Jim farmed until 1972. For sixteen years, Jim was employed by the Missouri State Highway Department, before retiring at the age of 70.

 

Jim was a devoted husband and father and loved spending time with his grandkids. He was a member of the Tarkio United Methodist Church and the Farm Bureau Ag Council. Jim was very active with the Boy Scouts and for more than thirty years served as a Club Leader for the Homer 4-H Club. Marjorie passed away in 2005. Jim passed away on October 11, 2011, at the Community Hospital-Fairfax, at the age of 93.

 

Besides his parents and wife, Marjorie, Jim was preceded in death by daughter, Elizabeth Postlewait and son, John Robert Postlewait; grandchildren, Jill Coulter and Stacie (Mather) Knop and sister, Laura Lincoln Cook. Survivors include daughters, JoAnn Temple, and husband, Kenton, Herrin, Illinois, Sandra Morgan, and husband, Joe, Dudley, North Carolina, Cindy Stevens, and husband, Rob, Tarkio, Missouri, Susie Mather, and husband, James, Tarkio, Missouri; son, Steve Postlewait, Maryville, Missouri; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Celebration of Life:
11:00 A.M., Friday, October 14, 2011 at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
Interment: Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M., Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Davis Funeral Home.
