John Herbert "Herb" Beggs
July 31, 1933 - January 6, 2023
John Herbert “Herb” Beggs, the son of Orville and Irene (O’Neal) Beggs, was born July 31, 1933 in Stanberry, Missouri. Herb attended Tarkio High School, Tarkio, Missouri, graduating in 1951.
On March 22, 1952, Herb was united in marriage to Mary Ann Henning in her parent’s home. They became the parents of three children, Linda Carol, John Randall, and Jeffrey Lee and made their home in the Tarkio area.
Herb enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He took a sabbatical from farming in 1961, after the children were out of high school. They bought a home near Gainesville, Missouri, and Bull-Shoals Lake. Herb and Mary Ann enjoyed spending time at the lake and being outdoors. Then, they bought a home in Stockton, Missouri near Stockton Lake. Later, returning to Fairfax, Missouri to retire.
During the winter months, Herb and Mary Ann spent 6-month tours at Silver Creek Resort, north of Boise, Idaho. They made many friends and continued correspondence and phone calls with them like family. Herb and Mary Ann loved to travel the country and made memories together. God was always with them near and dear in their hearts.
Herb was a member of the First Christian Church, Tarkio. He was also a member of 4-H and enjoyed playing cards, hunting, boating, and fishing. Herb passed away Friday, January 6, 2023, at Tiffany Heights Nursing Home, Mound City, at the age of 89.
Besides his parents, Herb was preceded in death by sons, John Randall (Faye) Beggs and Jeffrey (Janice) Beggs; son-in-law, James Scheve; sister, Phyllis (Duane) Lloyd. Survivors include wife, Mary Ann Beggs, Mound City; daughter, Linda Carol Scheve, Springfield, Missouri; grandsons, John Jeremy (Andrea) Beggs, Brandon Christian (Trisha) Beggs, Jacob Terence Scheve, and Jesse Ryan Scheve; 8 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sister, Betty Beggs, Tarkio.
Herb’s body has been donated to science.
A Celebration of Life will begin 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 14, 2023, First Christian Church, Mound City.
The family will receive friends after the service in the basement of the church.
Memorials: Tiffany Heights Nursing Home or the donor’s choice.
Local Arrangements: Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port, Missouri.
