Joseph C. Hughes, the son Arley and Phyllis (Overlease) Hughes was born August 30, 1940, in Hamburg, Iowa. Joe graduated from Tarkio High School in 1958. Following high school, Joe was employed by Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.

In 1963, Joe was drafted into the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War. Receiving his honorable discharge in 1965, Joe returned to employment with Burlington Northern, retiring in 2003, after 45 years.

On August 30, 1966, Joe was united in marriage to Sharon Welch in Rock Port. They became the parents of three children, Clint, Lori and Lisa and made their home in Fairfax, Missouri.

Joe was a member of the Allen-Schiffern American Legion #199 of Tarkio. Joe passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016, at the Tarkio Rehabilitation and Healthcare, at the age of 75.

Besides his parents, Joe was preceded in death by step-father, Allen Richards and brother, Jim Hughes. Survivors include his wife, Sharon Hughes, Fairfax; son, Clint (Stacy) Hughes, Rock Port, daughters, Lori (Angelo) Erickson, Lisa (Chris) Yates, all of Tarkio; five grandchildren, Jase, Allison, Kyler, Alex, Aiden; brother, Tom W. Hughes, also of Tarkio.

Private Family Graveside Service and Interment:
Monday, August 29th, Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port.
Open Visitation: 12:00 PM, Sunday, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio. There is no family visitation.
