Joseph T. Smith
September 30, 2001 - July 16, 2026
Joseph Troy Smith, the adopted son of Steven Smith was born September 30, 2001, in Anchorage, Alaska. He was raised by Steven and stepmother, Sarah Smith, for the majority of his life. Joe attended elementary school at Airport Heights in Anchorage, Alaska and moved with his family to Nebraska in 2014. He attended Platteview Middle and High School in Springfield, Nebraska.
In recent years, Joe moved to Tarkio, Missouri. He was employed by Klosek’s Trash Service as a thrower until the present time. Joe had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed camping and fishing. He was also a talented artist who loved carving, engraving, and creating thoughtful things with his hands. Above all, Joe was a fiercely loyal friend who cherished spending time with others.
Joe passed away Thursday, July 16, 2026, at his home in Tarkio, at the age of 24.
Joseph was preceded in death by his grandfather, Marion King and his high school sweetheart, Rachel Robak. Survivors include adopted parent, Steven and his stepmother, Sarah Smith, siblings; Allison and Luke Smith, his birth mother, Michelle King, and his adoptive mother (aunt), Barbara King, siblings; Jon, Vivian, and Violet King, along with numerous other extended family members and a host of dear friends.
Joe will be remembered for his kind heart, artistic talents, and friendships he shared with those who knew him. Joe told his father just days before his passing that he “knew that Jesus is real.” This means that Jesus will stand up for Joe when he stands before God in heaven. Joe also said we will all meet Jesus and we better be ready because “he is nothing like you can imagine.” The extended Smith and members of the King family hope that this verse not only brings you comfort but also gives you hope that you too can see Joe again.
“Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.” – Matthew 10:32 NKJV
Joe’s memorial services will be held in Anchorage, Alaska, at a later date to be posted by the Smith family.
Memorials may be directed to Joseph’s family.
Cremation Arrangements: Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
