Joyce Anna Faye Scarlett (Annie) passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 16th, 2022 at Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care at the age of 85.  Annie was the daughter of Vernie and Euthel (Freeman) Smith, was born March 24, 1937 in Sycamore, Missouri.  Annie attended Fairfax High School, Fairfax, Missouri, graduating in 1955.  She then graduated from Gard Business School, St. Joseph, Missouri and was employed by the American National Bank until she was married.  On August 12, 1956, she was united in marriage to Charles Scarlett in Rock Port, Missouri.  They made their home in Columbia, Missouri while Charlie finished college and became parents of daughter Linda.  The couple moved back to Fairfax and made their home on the Scarlett family farm.  They became the parents of two daughters, Mary Ann and Laurie.

Annie was a former member of the Fairfax Baptist Church and maintained a close relationship with God through her whole life.  She enjoyed gardening, making jelly, canning goods, sewing, and was a dedicated farmer’s wife and hard worker.  She loved going to Branson with her sisters and taking pictures with celebrity look a-likes especially Elvis.  They loved to buy beanie babies and laugh, giggle and be silly.  She also loved family get togethers during holidays and playing cards with her mom, dad, siblings, and spouses.  Every summer Annie looked forward to traveling to Minnesota with Charlie to spend time together and to fish.

After a long illness, Charlie passed away in 1974 and Annie continued running the family farm until 1981 when she moved to Kansas City, Missouri.  She earned her Reflexology and Cosmetology certificates and worked in Kansas City in numerous occupations until moving back to Fairfax in 2012 and eventually she became a resident at Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care.

Besides her parents and husband, Annie was preceded in death by her sisters, Janet Moses, Judy Ellis, and Patty Garrett.  Survivors include sister, Ellamae Jackson, Branson, Missouri, and brother, Gerald Smith, Broomfield, Colorado, daughters Linda (Craig) Jefferson, Rogers, Arkansas, Mary Ann Arnold, Omaha, Nebraska, and Laurie (Dan) Martin, Mission, Kansas; grandchildren, Nathan, Matthew, Aaron, Kayla, Kyle, and Logan; numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
