On March 9, 1942, Joyce was united in marriage to Willis Martin in Detroit, Michigan. They lived in Detroit for one year before Willis served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Joyce passed away June 12, 2009 at Community Hospital-Fairfax, Missouri at the age of 86 years.

Joyce was a loving wife and mother, giving of her time to not only her family, but caring for many foster infants and children for six years. After their move to Rock Port, Joyce and Willis were involved in craft shows selling Cabbage Patch doll clothes, and foot pillows. Later Joyce embroidered over 30 quilts which she generously shared with her family. For several years Joyce made dozens of cookies each week to deliver to Tarkio Academy for the staff and students.
