Julian V. “Judy” VanGundy, the daughter of Edgar and Fern (Cooper) Johnston was born February 25, 1927 in Irvine, Kentucky. Judy graduated from high school in Rock Port, Missouri.
On February 10, 1947, Judy was united in marriage to Dick Martin VanGundy. They made their home in Corning and later Craig, Missouri where they farmed and became the parents of two children, Teressa and Gordon. In 1959 they moved to Tarkio, Missouri where Judy lived to the present time.
Judy was very active in all aspects of the farming operation and Pioneer Seed dealership, doing the bookwork for both. She retired in 2005 only after her health deteriorated. Judy, or Nanny as she was known by her grandkids and all their friends, was an avid supporter of Tarkio athletics. She received the Booster of the Year award, recognizing her for her outstanding support and dedication to all of Tarkio Athletics in 2005.
Before Dicks Passing in 1993, Dick and Judy were married for 46 years. Judy passed away Monday, October 11, 2010 at her home in Tarkio at the age of 83 years.
Judy was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Rock Port, the Hob Nob Club in Fairfax, Missouri, and had worked as a volunteer at Community Hospital, Fairfax.
Beside her parents and husband Dick, Judy was preceded in death by one grandson, Martin Colby VanGundy, and one sister Evelyn Finkin. Survivors include one daughter, Teressa Anderson and her husband Phil, Burleson, Texas, and one son, Gordon VanGundy and Sally, Tarkio; nine grandchildren, Stacey, Micki, Heather, Summer, Rhyan, Dustin, Corey, Paige, and Kelcy; eight great-grandchildren, Brock, Wyatt, Baylee, Erin, Braxton, Stella, Tyler, Dylan; one brother Gene Welch, Tucson, Arizona.
Graveside Service and Interment was held at, 5:00 pm, Tuesday, October 12, 2010, Home Cemetery, Tarkio
