Karen Tiemeyer
1941 – 2016
Rock Port, Missouri

 

Karen (McClurg) Tiemeyer, the daughter of Ivan and Ruth (King) McClurg, was born at home March 4, 1941, in rural Hopkins, Missouri. She attended White Cloud country school and graduated from Hopkins High School, Hopkins, Missouri, in 1959. Karen attended Northwest Missouri State College, Maryville, graduating in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Education.

 

On July 10, 1966, Karen was united in marriage to Paul Tiemeyer at the First Lutheran Church in Rock Port. They became the parents of two sons, Matthew and Nathan, and made their home in Rock Port their entire married life.

 

Karen taught business at Rock Port High School for four years and then worked as a bookkeeper at Hippo Melvin Oil Company in Rock Port. She was then employed by Citizen’s Bank and Trust, in Rock Port, as a receptionist before being promoted to Assistant Trust Officer. Though Karen was employed outside the home, caring for her family was her greatest commitment and joy.

 

Karen was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Rock Port, where she served one term on the church council and for several years as church secretary. She also formerly sang with the Sweet Adelines. Karen passed away Sunday, September 25, 2016, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 75.

 

In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by two brothers, Cleo and Dale McClurg. Survivors include husband, Paul Tiemeyer, Rock Port; two sons, Nathan Tiemeyer and wife, Rachel, Columbia, Missouri, and their children, Jackson, Hannah and Benjamin, and Matthew Tiemeyer and wife, Shelly, Seattle, Washington, and their children, Caelan and Will; sister, Etta Mae Mutti and husband, Fritz, Lee’s Summit, Missouri; brothers, Thomas McClurg, St. Joseph, Missouri, and John McClurg and wife, Linda, Maryville, Missouri; brother-in-law, Rich Tiemeyer and wife, Toni Messina, Columbia, Missouri; sister-in-laws, Marie McClurg, Des Moines, Iowa, and Carolyn McClurg, Chicago, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Service: 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 1, 2016, First Lutheran Church, Rock Port.
Interment: Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port.
Open visitation begins 9:00 A.M., Friday, September 30, 2016, Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port, where the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M.
