Kathleen M. Vette, the daughter of Herbert and Alma (Hoffman) Vette was born March 6, 1927 on the family farm near Tarkio, Missouri. She attended several rural country schools, and in seventh grade she moved to Tarkio and graduated from Tarkio High School. Kathleen lived in Tarkio most of her life.

 

Kathleen was employed by Farmers and Valley Bank in Tarkio for 33 years. In 1976, after the death of both of her parents, she became the sole caretaker of her invalid sister, Shirley Ann, until her death in September, 1998. Kathleen passed away Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, Missouri, at the age of 83 years.

 

Kathleen was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Westboro, Missouri, where she was baptized on May 1, 1927, and confirmed on August 4, 1940. She was a member of the Tarkio Business and Professional Women’s League, of which she was treasurer from 1968 to 1970 and 2000 to 2002, the Mule Barn Theater Guild and the Tarkio Garden Club. She was also Treasurer of the City of Tarkio for seven years. In her spare time, Kathleen enjoyed reading, sewing, growing flowers and traveling.

 

Besides her parents, Kathleen was preceded in death by her brother, Marvin D. Vette, and sister, Shirley Ann Vette. Survivors include three nephews, Doug Vette, Rock Port, Michael Vette, and his wife, Hope, Rock Port, and Mark Vette, Tarkio; three nieces, Karmen Meza, and her husband, Danny, Deer Park, Texas, Sharmen Slemp, and her husband, Lee, Spangle, Washington, and Shauna Melvin, and her husband, Scott, Rock Port; six great nephews; six great nieces; and cousins.

 

Graveside Service and Interment: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 23, 2010, at St. John’s Cemetery, Westboro, Missouri.
Visitation: There is no scheduled family visitation.
