Kenneth Junior Long was born in Hamburg, Iowa, on August 3, 1924 he passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2013, in Rock Port, Missouri. Junior was the son of Kenneth Omar Long and Mabel Marie (Brought) Long. He had one brother Norman (Stub) Long.
The Long family moved to Rock Port in 1935 and Junior attended Rock Port Schools until 1942 when he enlisted in the U.S. Army at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. During his first enlistment he was assigned to Company C of the 90th Infantry Training Battalion 19th Regiment. He served in the Asian Pacific Theater of Operations from March 1944 – October 1944. He was honorably discharged from this period of service on February 13, 1946.
After two years of civilian life Junior once again enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned to an Engineering Battalion. Although he obligated himself for 3 years he was the lucky recipient of an involuntary one year extension courtesy of the North Koreans and President Harry Truman. This enlistment covered the time period of March 26, 1948 through March 29, 1952 he then received his second honorable discharge.
Military decorations include: Good Conduct Medal (2), Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon, American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, Victory Ribbon with one overseas bar, Army of Occupation Medal, Korean Service Medal with 5 Service Stars.
Junior was preceded in death by his parents, his brother (Stub), wife (Betty), and two daughters Kelly and Jackie. He is survived by his son Jeff Long and wife Linda; grandchildren; Cara Davis, Josh Long, Matthew Carder, Troy Hale, Jason Long, Okema Hale, Julie Long, Daryn Bennett, and Aaron Bennett; and 15 great-grandchildren.

2:00 P.M., Thursday, May 30, 2013, First Christian Church, Rock Port.
Interment: Linden Cemetery, Rock Port.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
