Kevin Leroy Hurst, the son of Charles Leroy and Mildred Mae (Nelson) Hurst was born July 1, 1959 in Fairfax, Missouri.  Kevin graduated from Tarkio High School in 1977 and University of Missouri – Columbia, in 1981 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics and a member of the Alpha Gamma Sigma fraternity.

 

On May 19, 1979, Kevin was united in marriage to Nancy McQuinn at the Baptist Church in Butler, Missouri. In 1981, they returned to Tarkio to participate in the Hurst Family Farming operation.  They become the parents of four sons, Charles Brooks, Don Brett, Dallas Kevin, and Taylor Cody.  Kevin was eager to utilize modern farming technology, such as no till, precision GPS nutrient application and planting, and specialty terraces.  His family raised cattle, corn and soybeans. Kevin passed away Monday, October 21, 2019, at Community Hospital – Fairfax, at the age of 60.

 

Kevin was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, trustee and president of the church corporation. He was a past president of both the Atchison County Fair Board and the Missouri Corn Merchandising Council, and past board member of the Missouri Corn Growers Association.  He was currently serving on the Atchison County Soil and Water Board, and as president of the Tarkio Board of Public Works. In 1985, Kevin received the Missouri Farm Bureau Young Farmer and Rancher Award, in 2003, was named the Missouri State Fair Farm Family and in 2005, was recognized as the Tarkio Community Betterment Farm Family. Kevin had many hobbies; including golf, fishing, traveling, Cardinals baseball and Missouri Tigers Football. However, most important was spending time with his family.

 

Kevin was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Don McQuinn and grandson, Elijah Murphy Rhett Hurst.  Survivors include his wife, Nancy Hurst, Tarkio; sons, Brooks (Amy) Hurst, Tarkio, Brett (Shelby) Hurst, Fairfax, Dallas Hurst, Tarkio, Taylor (Kameron) Hurst, Tarkio; six grandchildren, Finn, Tucker, Wendy, Landry, Jo, Elliott; parents, Charles and Mildred Hurst, Tarkio; mother-in-law, Janell McQuinn, Tarkio; brothers, Blake (Julie) Hurst and Brooks (Lydia) Hurst, all of Tarkio; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 26, 2019, First Baptist Church, Tarkio.

Interment: Home Cemetery, Tarkio.

Open visitation begins 9:00 a.m., Friday, October 25th, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church or Community Hospital – Fairfax.
