Larry Frank Groff
June 8, 1939 - May 10, 2026
Larry Frank Groff, the son of Ora Frank and Lena Mae (Blankenship) Groff, was born June 8, 1939, in Pawnee City, Nebraska. He attended Burlington Junction High School, Burlington Junction, Missouri, graduating in 1957. Larry then attended Auctioneer School in Mason City, Iowa.
On November 27, 1960, Larry was united in marriage to Janice Kay Maness in Rock Port, Missouri. They became the parents of three daughters, Julia, Becky, and Malisa, and made their home in Rock Port. Janice passed away in September of 2002. In October of 2006, Larry was united in marriage to Frances Shipley. Frances passed away in November of 2012.
In the late 1950’s, Larry worked for the Rock Port Sales Pavilion as an Auctioneer/Livestock Sales Manager, until their closing in the early 1980’s. He then was employed by National Farmers Organization, as a Cattle Buyer, traveling throughout the United States, purchasing feeder cattle. Later, Larry worked for Auburn Consolidated Industries, Auburn, Nebraska, as a Parts Manager, retiring in 2002.
Larry was a member of the Rock Port Baptist Church. In September of 1972, he received Jesus Christ as his LORD and Savior. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. When he was younger, Larry competed in various rodeo events and won numerous trophies, belt buckles, and the title of “All Around Cowboy”. He enjoyed drinking coffee and visiting with friends, listening to classic country and blue grass music, and watching horse races, rodeos, and western/war movies. Larry loved trading everything from boots, knives, belt buckles, guns, and watches. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger days. Larry passed away Sunday, May 10, 2026, Community Hospital-Fairfax, Fairfax, Missouri, at the age of 86.
Besides his parents and wives, Janice Groff and Frances Shipley-Groff, Larry was preceded in death by grandson, Carrick Linthicum; siblings, Dorothy (Gene) Gilmore, Ora Junior Groff, Darrell (Mary Jane) Groff, and Vivian Groff; brothers-in-law, Max Davis and Jimmie Hughes. Survivors include daughters, Julia (Troy McKay) Cohen, Gardner, Kansas, Becky Groff, and Malisa (Chuck) Linthicum, both of Rock Port; grandchildren, Chans, Tara, Makenzie, Natalie, Kelsey, Colby, and Caden; numerous great grandchildren; sisters, Wilma Davis, Rock Port, and Janet (George) Kimble, Maryville, Missouri, and half-brother, Bill (Wanda) Morrison, Santa Fe, New Mexico; sisters-in-law, Norma Groff, Judy (Ronnie) Bradley, and Marilyn Hughes, all of Rock Port; numerous nieces and nephews.
Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
Memorials: Rock Port Senior Center.
Cremation Arrangements: Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
