Laurel E. Craven
1934 – 2016
Tarkio, Missouri

 

Laurel Electa (Meyer) Craven, the daughter of Fred and Lucille (Emery) Meyer, passed away on April 5, 2016, at the Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 81. Laurel was born in rural Fremont County, Iowa, on July 19, 1934.

 

Laurel attended Lone Willow country school, Westboro Grade School, Northboro High School, and graduated from Westboro High, Westboro, Missouri, in 1952. She graduated from Commercial Extension Business College and worked in Omaha for several years.

 

Laurel was united in marriage to Hale Craven at the Locust Grove Methodist Church in rural Shenandoah, Iowa, on December 1, 1957. On March 1, 1958, they moved to a farm southeast of Fairfax, Missouri. They resided on this farm until 2013 when they moved to Tarkio, Missouri.

 

Laurel was a member of the Fairfax Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and Bible school for many years. She also worked part time for Fairfax Manufacturing Company, Community Hospital and Oxy-Med Inc., all of Fairfax, and the Heartland Recreation Center in Tarkio.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents.

 

Laurel is survived by her husband, Hale, of 59 years; three sons, Brian Craven, Fairfax, Brett Craven and his wife, Renee, Northboro, Iowa, and Clark Craven, Bangkok, Thailand; two granddaughters, Chasidy Nicole (Matt) Bryl, Papillion, Nebraska, (and great-grandson, Drake Bryl and great-granddaughter, Eliana Bryl) and Brittney Mae (Bradley) Smelt, Dayton, Ohio; two sisters, Coral (Ken) Elandt and Carol Barnes; three sisters-in-law, Beulah Waggoner, Lois (Jim) Powell, and Phyllis Craven.

 

Funeral Services: 9:30 A.M., Friday, April 8, 2016, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
Interment: Home Cemetery, Tarkio, Missouri
The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M., Thursday, at Davis Funeral Home.
Memorials: Baptist Children’s Home in care of the Fairfax Baptist Church.
