LaVada Mae Evans
June 27, 1931 - January 14, 2010
LaVada Mae Evans, the daughter of Ernest Henry and Minnie Elizabeth (Sunderman) Walter, was born June 27, 1931 in Hamburg, Iowa. She attended Lone Willow Country School in Northboro, Iowa and Farragut High School, Farragut, Iowa, graduating in 1946. LaVada then attended nursing school for one year. She was employed for several years, by Van B. Tracy, D.D.S. in Shenandoah, Iowa as a dental assistant. LaVada was also a member and attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Northboro, Iowa.
On October 27, 1950, LaVada was united in marriage to John Clark Evans at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Northboro, and made their home in Tarkio. They became the proud parents of two sons, Clark and Curtis. LaVada was a stay at home mom and homemaker until the boys left home. LaVada then worked 21 years for Colfax Farmers Mutual Insurance in Tarkio for Chris Martin, and later for Kelly Rohlfsen as an executive assistant until retiring.
LaVada was blessed with athletic ability, allowing her to be a basketball standout in high school, from which she earned numerous awards. She also enjoyed bowling, earning state and national awards in the early 1960’s. She was a devoted Brownies leader and Cub Scout den mother for Den # 88, with Betty Martin. LaVada passed away Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Community Hospital – Fairfax, Missouri at the age of 78 years.
Besides her parents, LaVada is preceded in death by her husband, John Evans and one brother, Gilbert Walter. Survivors include her sons, Clark Evans and his wife, Holli, Norcross, Georgia and Curtis Evans, Tarkio; step-grandchildren, Tiffany Shellhamer and Tony Sgro; three step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Donna Walter; niece, Sandy Byers and her husband, Gary, and their two children; niece, Brenda Christensen and her husband, Greg, and their two children; niece, Marsha Kubica and her husband, Mark, and their three children, all of Omaha, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Janett Adams, Tarkio; niece, Michelle Halferty, Platte City, Missouri, and her two children, niece, Sharolyn Adams, Tarkio, and her daughter.
Memorial Service:
10:30 am, Monday, January 18, 2010, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:20 am, Monday, January 18, 2010, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
