Lena Maxine Monk
May 6, 1922 - June 19, 2010
Lena Maxine Monk, the daughter of Edmund Raymond and Lena Mae (McNaughton) Bilby, was born in Scott City, Kansas on May 6, 1922. As a child, she attended various country schools and graduated from Elmo High School in Elmo, Missouri. Maxine then received her nursing degree from Norwegian American Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
In October of 1944, Maxine was united in marriage to Wallace Eugene Miller. They became the parents of four children, raising their family in rural Atchison County, Missouri. They were later divorced. In March of 1970, Maxine was united in marriage to Otis Monk. Otis preceded her in death, passing away in 1990.
Maxine was employed at Community Hospital – Fairfax, Missouri and as Director of Nursing at Northview Manor Nursing Home in Tarkio, Missouri. She was Director of Nursing at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Rock Port, Missouri, where she worked until retiring in 2002, four months prior to her 80th birthday. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tarkio. Maxine passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010 in Manhattan, Kansas at the age of 88 years.
Besides her parents and husband Otis, Maxine is preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Bilby and one step-daughter, Peggy Monk.
She is survived by her children, Patricia Marteney, Riley, Kansas and her husband Richard, Richard Miller and his wife Jackie, Rock Port, Sandra Shelton and her husband Darrell, Princeton, Missouri, Annette Gude and her husband Greg, Olsburg, Kansas; two stepchildren, Pat Bingaman and Paul Monk; nine grandchildren, Leslie Boelens, Derrek and Justin Marteney, Tessa Miller Schweder, Micah Miller, Tom and John Shelton, Dana and Amber Gude; thirteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Anna Vogel, Royana Linsky; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service:
2:00 pm, Friday, June 25, 2010, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, Missouri.
Inurnment at a later date at Center Grove Cemetery, Westboro, Missouri.
There is no visitation.
Memorials: Community Hospital-Fairfax Maternity Unit.
