Leonard Monroe Jones Sr., son of Ernest L. and Dessie M. (Reppond) Jones, was born August 3, 1931, in Childress, Texas. In 1948, he married Dorothy D. Veale, and they had three daughters: Sandra Lynn, Jacquetta D. and Pamela K. They later divorced. Leonard served in the United States Army from 1953-1955 during the Korean War.

 

On July, 1, 1956, Leonard was united in marriage to Peggy Carlene Nichols and they became the parents of three children: Leonard M. Jr., Deborah A., and Bradley A. Peggy passed away in July of 2017.

 

They made their home in Azusa, California until 1967 when they moved the family to Sacramento, California. Leonard managed several gas stations and worked as a mechanic until taking a job with the U.S. Postal Service. In 2002, they retired and moved to Arizona before making their final move to Rock Port, Missouri to be closer to their daughter Debby, and her family. Leonard passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at his home in Rock Port, at the age of 93.

 

Besides his parents and wife, Peggy, Leonard was preceded in death by his son, Leonard Jr, and daughter, Sandra Lynn Houseknecht; brothers, J.B., Homer, Cleon, and Earlon Jones and sister, Theolalene Jackson, all of Texas.

 

He is survived by his daughter, Debby (Ken) Miller, Rock Port, Jacquetta (David) Calkins, Washington, and Pamela Smith, Los Angles, California, son, Bradley (Laurajean) Jones, Sacramento; grandchildren, Billy Joe Jones, Joseph (Chelsea) Jones and Elizabeth Jones, Sacramento, Jennifer L. Blakeman, Rock Port, Brandon (Kirsten) Blakeman, Portland, Oregon, Steven Jones, Rock Port, Carlene Jones, Sacramento, local step grandchildren, Samuel (Karen) Miller, Rock Port; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Anneliese Clauson, Rock Port, Trevor and Christian Jones, Adam and Alan Penn, Sacramento, Cassondra Chagnon and Marissa Setterstrom, Colorado, Lorelai and Hayden Jones, Sacramento, Lia and Mara Blakeman Portland, local step great grandchildren, Ethan, Hannah, Reed, Claire and Grant Miller, Rock Port; six great-great grandchildren; sisters, Dorthy M. Quintero and Linda Jarrell, Oklahoma; numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Service: 2:00 P.M., Sunday, February 23, 2025, Rock Port Baptist Church, Rock Port.

The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:00 P.M., Sunday, prior to the service. There is no open visitation.

Interment: Greenhill Cemetery, Rock Port.

Memorials: Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49 or Rock Port Senior Center.

Arrangements: Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
