Lois Marie Herron
July 8, 1923 - May 18, 2010
Lois Marie (Cooper) Herron, the daughter of Irvin E. and Hiebe Cooper, was born July 8, 1923, in Rock Port, Missouri. She was baptized on October 14, 1923, and confirmed on June 6, 1937, at the St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Langdon, Missouri. Lois lost her mother in October of 1936 and her father drowned in June of 1937. She then made her home with Gordon and Gladys Clifton. Lois attended West Bend School through the 8th grade, and graduated from Rock Port High School in 1941. Upon graduation, she worked for Minnie Strobel, the Atchison County nurse.
On March 22, 1945, Lois was united in marriage to W.H. Herron and they became the parents of three children, Daniel Paul, Peggy and Steven Douglas. Dub and Lois made their home and farmed in the Rock Port community their entire married life. Lois passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Rock Port at the age of 86 years.
She enjoyed sewing, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, solitaire and scrabble, but her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family.
Besides her parents, Lois is preceded in death by her husband, W.H.; one infant son, Daniel Paul Herron; uncle and aunt, Gordon and Gladys Clifton and cousins Jan Clifton, Phyllis Hollister and June Lynn. She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Smith and her husband Gary, Mondamin, Iowa, and son, Steve Herron and his wife Carol, Rock Port; four grandsons, Reno Herron and his wife Mel, Tarkio, Missouri; Rebel Herron and his wife Jen; Reven Herron and Redge Herron, all of Rock Port; four great-grandchildren: Sean, Blair, Ryder and Presley; aunt, Agnes Rosenbohm, Rock Port; three sisters-in-law, Betty Kesterson, Shenandoah, Iowa; Vera Herron, Kansas City, Missouri; and Jessie Knierim, Rock Port; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services: 10:30 am, Friday, May 21, 2010, First Lutheran Church, Rock Port.
There is no scheduled family visitation. Friends may call after 9:00 am Thursday at Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
Interment: Grange Hall Cemetery, Rock Port.
Memorials: First Lutheran Church, Grange Hall Cemetery or Rock Port First Responders.
