Lucille Southard, the daughter of Samuel Paul and Mae Louise (Slafter) Rolofson, was born October 1, 1926, in Sprague, Nebraska. Lucille’s family moved to Atchison County in 1939, and she attended area country schools, graduating from Westboro High School, Westboro, Missouri, in 1945. Lucille worked in Washington D.C. for a short time, and contributed to the World War II effort. She then returned to Missouri and taught school.

On May 17, 1947, Lucille was united in marriage to Galen Southard and they became the parents of three children, Jolene, Eugene and Marvin. They made their home in the Craig, Missouri, and Fairfax, Missouri, areas until 1961, when they moved to rural Tarkio, Missouri. In 2010, they moved into Tarkio. Galen passed away March 20, 2011. Lucille passed away Thursday, January 31, 2013, at Bryan LGH Medical Center, Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 86.

Lucille was a member of the Morning Sun Friendship Club, Westboro, the Allen-Schiffern American Legion Auxiliary #199, Tarkio, and was a member of the Fairfax Baptist Church, Fairfax, Missouri. She especially enjoyed visiting with her many friends and spending time with her family.

Besides her parents and husband, Lucille was preceded in death by daughter and son-in-law, Jolene and Larry Harriman; sisters, Mildred Rosenlof and Dorothy and Grace Rolofson; and brothers, Gayle and Pete Rolofson and brother-in-law Doyle Southard. Survivors include two sons, Eugene Southard and wife, Roxanne, and Marvin Southard and wife, Karon, all of Tarkio; six grandchildren, Jason Harriman and wife, Tammy, Jamie Poland and husband, Bryce, Jason Southard and wife, Danielle, Mandy Fielder and husband, Dusty, Jamie Moore and wife, Sally, and Greg Moore and wife, Laura; fifteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Rolofson and wife, Gloria, Sandy, Oregon; sisters, June Wensel and husband, Charles, Mountain Home, Arkansas, and Esther Southard, Fairfax, Missouri; sister-in-law, Dixie Rolofson, Red Oak, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M., Monday, February 4, 2013, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
Interment: Center Grove Cemetery, Westboro, Missouri.
Open visitation will begin 11:00 A.M., Sunday, February 3, 2013, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio. The family will receive friends 10:00-11:00 A.M., Monday, February 4, 2013, prior to the service, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
