Lucretia Kay (Lester) Baucom
June 29, 1962 - November 8, 2019
Lucretia Kay Baucom, the daughter of Paul and Karen Lester and Sharon Kay Fahsler, was born June 29, 1962 in Fairfax, Missouri. She graduated from Tarkio High School, Tarkio, Missouri, in 1980, then attended Tarkio College for over 3 years. In 1990 she graduated from the Iowa Western School of Cosmetology and in 1991 with an LPN diploma also from Iowa Western.
In 1996 Kay was united in marriage to Jim Baucom in Shenandoah, Iowa. They divorced in 2003.
At the early age of 9 Kay worked on Grandma Carole’s bean crew. At age 16 she began volunteering as a “Candy Striper” at Fairfax Community Hospital. In High school she worked at the D&G Restaurant as a waitress. Her numerous other jobs include, CNA at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port and various nursing homes in Iowa. Missouri Beef Packers, Rock Port, and Pizza Hut, Tarkio. Kay helped build grain bins with Golden Grain, a bartender at Peppermint Lounge, and as a nurse at The Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, Shenandoah, Iowa and The Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville, Missouri, retiring in 2007. Kay passed away Friday, November 8, 2019, at her home in Tarkio, at the age of 57.
Kay was a member of the First Baptist Church, Tarkio, and the Tarkio American Legion Auxilliary.
Kay was preceded in death by her grandmother, Lucretia Carole Lester; mother, Sharon Kay Hines, and Aunt, Helen Gracie Graham. Survivors include, children, Andrew Lester, Arkansas, Annie (Gabe Poptanycz) Lester, Missouri, Nick (Amber) Lester, California; three grandchildren, Treyvin, Makenna and Ethan Lester; two step-grandchildren, Kaydin Vogler and McKynna Nicholas; father, Paul (Karen) Lester, Tarkio; siblings, John (Julie) Lester, Tarkio, Duane (Sara) Lester, Tarkio, Matt (Alyssa) Lester, Virginia, Ron (Trudy) Baker, Fairfax; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 14, 2019, First Baptist Church, Tarkio.
Private family inurnment at later date.
The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., prior to the service.
IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, the family request memorials made payable to Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio to help with final expenses.
