Lucy Pearl Thompson, the daughter of Wesley and Lulu (West) Bowers, was born August 12, 1916 in Barada, Nebraska. As a young girl Lucy attended school in Barada. In 1929, Lucy’s parents purchased the Watson, Missouri phone office. Lucy attended and graduated from Watson High School in 1934. She then attended Peru State College for two years.
On November 25, 1936 Lucy was united in marriage to Wayne “Mandy” Thompson by Rev. Ralph Boggs. They became the parents of two sons; Buford Wayne and Ronald Dwight. They were later divorced.
Lucy was a former employee for the Watson Phone Company, for Lee Pemberton at Beaty Grocery and for Kerr’s I.G.A. Market both in Rock Port. In 1983, she retired and moved to Maryville, Missouri. In 2002, she returned to Rock Port where she lived to the present time. Lucy passed away Monday, January 29, 2007 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 90 years.
Lucy was a member of the United Methodist Church, Rock Port, the Royal Neighbors of America and the Eagles Lodge, Maryville.
Survivors include one son Ronald Thompson and his wife Marie, Griffon, Georgia, daughter-in-law, Annette Thompson, Riverside, Missouri; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great granddaughters, one sister, Wanda Miller, Republic, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents Lucy was preceded in death by her son Buford, March 26, 2005, two sisters, Fern and Rosa and one brother Olin Bowers.
Funeral Services were held 10:00 am Saturday, February 3, 2007 at Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
Burial at Elmwood Cemetery, Rock Port.
