Lyle G. Nelson, Sr.

Lyle G. Nelson, Sr., the son of Carl and Mabel (Perry) Nelson, was born November 23, 1931, in Coin, Iowa. He attended Eureka Country School and Westboro High School, Westboro, Missouri, where he graduated in 1949. Lyle entered the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War.

On September 7, 1950, Lyle was united in marriage to Ethel Mae Driskell. They became the parents of Patricia, Lyle, David, Rick, Lutishia and Tami and made their home in the Westboro area.

Lyle farmed for a few years before he owned and operated a carpentry business for 25 years. In the early 1980’s, Lyle and Ethel moved to south Missouri and built a beautiful home where he lived to the present time. He then purchased a bulldozer and enjoyed operating it for 25 years. Lyle served as a local Boy Scout leader for 18 years and was a member of the Merrill-Smith American Legion Post #32 of Westboro. Ethel passed away January 4, 1993. Lyle passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014, at his home in Collins, at the age of 82.

Besides his parents and wife, Lyle was preceded in death by daughter, Patricia Turner; and brothers, Wayne and Keith Nelson. Survivors include five children, Lyle Nelson, Jr. and wife, Ina Kay, Northboro, Iowa, David Nelson and wife, Lou, Essex, Iowa, Rick Nelson and Sharen Carnegey, Westboro, Missouri, Lutishia Aufenkamp, Clarinda, Iowa, and Tami Nelson, Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren, Traci (Andy) Regan and their children, Matthew and Madison, Eric (Molly) Nelson and their son, Ruger, Jason Nelson and daughters, Josie and Jenna, Joshua (Stacy) Nelson and their children, Keegan, Kendall and Kooper, Justin (Stephanie) Nelson, Cassie (Nate) Defenbaugh and their daughter, Paxtyn, Brianna (James) Navin and their children, Emma and Jasper, Coby (Krystyanna) Aufenkamp, Jennifer (Brandon) Pflueger and their children, Jaedon and Audrey, Jessica Nelson and her daughter, Charlie Mae; brothers, Kenneth (Jean) Nelson, Plattsburg, Missouri, Carroll Dean (Kay) Nelson, Westboro; sister, Lois Ann (Darrell) Spangler, Shenandoah, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, August 13, 2014, Westboro United Methodist Church.
Interment: Union Grove Cemetery, Northboro, Iowa.
Open visitation will begin 9:00 A.M., Tuesday, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, where the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M. that evening.
