Lynda J. Leek
1945-2014
Highland Village, Texas

 

Lynda was born September 7, 1945, in Kansas City, Kansas, to James Irvin and Zella (Ann) Cook. Lynda Jean Leek, 68, of Highland Village, Texas, passed away at home with her family on March 12, 2014, from complications of pancreatic cancer.

 

Lynda is survived by her husband, Joe Leek, of Highland Village, Texas. They were married July 23, 2005, in Chinn’s Chapel Church in Copper Canyon, Texas. Survivors also include daughter, Angela Lynne Gunter, husband Ashby, and granddaughter, Samantha, of Greensboro, North Carolina; her son, John Christopher Jones, and fiancée, Rachel Alpert, of Charlottesville, Virginia; two step-daughters, Tammy and Andrea; a step-son, John; four step-grandchildren, Chelsea, Markis and Mackenzie in Texas, and Chloe who lives in Kansas. She is also survived by two brothers, Jim Cook of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Curtis Cook of Raleigh, North Carolina, along with several nieces and nephews and their families. She is preceded in death by her father, her mother, and one brother, Blaine Cook of Rock Port, Missouri.

 

Lynda and Joe both attended Tarkio, Missouri, schools from Kindergarten through High School. Though Lynda began school in Kindergarten in Tarkio her family moved to the Kansas City, Missouri, area for her father’s work for a couple of years during grade school but returned to Tarkio where she attended high school and she and Joe both graduated from THS in 1963. Lynda was active in many Tarkio High School groups and organizations including concert band, Girls Glee club, Mixed Chorus, Pep Club, Cheerleading and was chosen the 1963 Homecoming Queen her senior year at Tarkio.

 

After high school she went to Nurses Training in Kansas City and married Gene Jones from Fairfax, Missouri, in 1969. Gene became an officer in the Navy and as a Navy wife during her marriage to Gene, Lynda lived in many different states after she left Missouri, including Hawaii, California, Texas, Mississippi, Florida and Virginia, the family also lived abroad in Europe, specifically Italy where she became fluent in Italian.. However one of her favorite places in the entire USA was Washington DC, she loved the rich American history and being involved in government, volunteering at the US Senate and other governmental agencies in DC.

 

Lynda was without a doubt a “people person” and had many friends around the world. She loved people and enjoyed work most that gave her the opportunity to meet and talk to new people. After her marriage to Joe in 2005 she worked as a Market Survey Representative which let her travel all over the country and also sold Premier Jewelry and Mary Kay, she loved anything that brought her in contact with new people and ideas. Everyone she met was immediately a friend.

 

Memorial Service: 2:00 P.M., Sunday, May 25, 2014, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
Lynda’s wish was to be cremated so there will be no graveside services.
There is no visitation.
