Marie Mildred Hopkins, the daughter of Joseph F. and Mary (Bouzek) Betz, was born January 11, 1922, in Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin. She attended country school in Eastman, Wisconsin and Catholic school in Prairie du Chien.

In August 1943, Marie was united in marriage to Kenneth Russell Hopkins. They made their home in San Diego, California, while Kenneth served his country, in the United States Navy. In 1945, following Kenneth’s military service, they moved to Westboro, Missouri, where they were long-time residents. Marie was a homemaker and mother of their seven children: Caroline, Joyce, Janet, Patricia, Marlene, Kenneth and Mark.

They owned and operated a general store in Westboro. Kenneth passed away in 1970. Marie was also employed by Head Start for 22 years in Tarkio, Missouri. Marie was a member of the Merrill-Smith American Legion Auxiliary in Westboro, St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Tarkio, and the Altar Society. She has lived the past 8 years in Omaha, Nebraska with her daughter, Jan. Marie passed away Thursday, October 11, 2012, at the Josie Harper Hospice House, Omaha, at the age of 90.

Besides her parents and husband, Marie was preceded in death by two sisters, Naomi and Lorraine Betz; and brother, Donald Betz. Survivors include five daughters: Caroline Lewis, Omaha; Joyce Ford, Wesley Chapel, Florida; Janet Morfitt and Patricia Colson, both of Omaha; Marlene Barnes (Tony), Blair, Nebraska; two sons, Kenneth Hopkins (Linda), Independence, Missouri; and Mark Hopkins (Sharon), Villa Ridge, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Day, Chicago, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of the Christian Burial: 10:30 A.M., Monday, October 15, 2012, St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Tarkio, Missouri.
Interment: Center Grove Cemetery, Westboro.
Rosary and Visitation: A rosary will be recited at 5:30 P.M., Sunday, October 14, 2012, at the Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, where the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M.
