For a time, Elizabeth worked in St. Joseph, Missouri at the Home of the Little Wanderers on Noyes Boulevard.

In 1927, she moved with her family from Faucett, Missouri to Atchison County, Missouri, where her father and brothers helped farm 720 acres of the J.C. Culbertson land northeast of Tarkio. They moved by railroad all of their furniture and equipment, along with cattle, mules and horses. In 1943, Elizabeth moved into Tarkio with her family when her father retired from farming.
