M. Scott Smith

1964-2019

Tarkio, Missouri

 

Martin Scott Smith, the son of Stanley Martin and Gwendolyn Darlene (Hancock) Smith, was born December 11, 1964, in Fairfax, Missouri. He attended Fairfax High School, Fairfax, graduating in 1983.

 

On September 8, 2011, Scott was united in marriage to Tammy Murphy in Tarkio, Missouri. Their children include, Jordan, Nicole, Jack, Jonathan, Brandon, Dakota and Jasmine. For nearly 20 years, Scott was employed with Priority Air Courier Inc. of Kansas City, Missouri, where he was Operations Manager. In 2003, Scott was employed by Eaton Corp. in Shenandoah, Iowa. In 2012, Scott started Martin S. Smith Trucking, LLC, hauling rock, sand, lime, and dirt to local customers. Scott carried mail for the United States Postal Service, part-time from 1999 to present.

 

Scott was a member of Fairfax Masonic Lodge #483, A.F. and A.M. He was baptized at the Presbyterian Church in Fairfax. He was a member of the National Letter Carriers Association and enjoyed riding his Harley, camping, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family. Scott passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at his home in Tarkio at the age of 54.

 

In addition to his parents, Scott was preceded in death by grandparents, Fred and Jennie Smith and Carl and Tillie Loveland, brother, Randy Dunkle and brothers-in-law, Roger Clark and Rick Martin. Survivors include wife, Tammy Smith, Tarkio; seven children, Jordan, Nicole (Chris), Jack (Emily), Jonathan (Cathrine), Brandon, Dakota (Stuart) and Jasmine (Jesse); twelve grandchildren; sisters, Carol Clark, Fairfax, Trudy Martin, Tarkio; sister-in-law, Connie (Jack Bright) Dunkle, Fairfax; father and mother-in-law, Nelson and Cora Murphy, Essex, Iowa; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sherri (Ottis) Hale, Essex, Tom Murphy, Syracuse, Nebraska, and Pam (Dean) Hastings, Glenwood, Iowa; uncle, Gary (Kay) Smith, Fairfax; aunt, Shirley Henning, Tarkio; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service: 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 2, 2019, First Baptist Church, Tarkio.

Private family inurnment at a later date at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax.

Open visitation begins 9:00 A.M., Friday, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, where the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M.
