Mary Ann Avrett, the daughter of William Donald, Sr. and Mary Margaret (Tallant) Bailey was born February 20, 1941, in Phelps City, Missouri. She attended school in Phelps City and Rock Port, Missouri, Brownville and Lincoln, Nebraska, and Abilene, Texas.

 

On May 16, 1957, Mary Ann was united in marriage to Horace Franklin Avrett in Abilene, Texas, and they became the parents of two children, Mary Elizabeth and Michael Lynn. They returned to the Atchison County, Missouri area in 1972. Mary Ann helped care for terminally ill patients in their homes. She was the first licensed hospice aide in Abilene and cared for numerous people in Atchison County and Hamburg, Iowa. She cooked in the Grape Community Hospital, Hamburg, until Horace’s illness required her fulltime care. Horace passed away in December 2003. Mary Ann passed away Saturday, October 31, 2015, at Community Hospital-Fairfax, Fairfax, Missouri, at the age of 74.

 

Mary Ann considered her family to be most important in her life, especially her nine great-grandchildren whom could do no wrong. She enjoyed reading, quilting and baking.

 

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Survivors include; children, Mary Elizabeth Rhoades and her husband, David, Michael Lynn Avrett, all of Fairfax; grandchildren, Amy JoAnn (Raymond, Jr.) Gebhards, Tarkio, Missouri, Tasha Nichole Quimby, Maryville, Missouri, Christopher Franklin (Bonnie) Avrett, Tarkio, Dusty Lee Rhoades, Fairfax, and Joseph Lee (Mandy) Rhoades, Fairfax; great-grandchildren, Kiersten Nichole Quimby, Madison Danielle Quattrocchi, Emily JoAnn Gebhards, Alyssa Lynn Quimby, Luke David Gebhards, Kelsey Ann Avrett, Katherine Mae Avrett, Jenna LeAnn Gebhards and Hunter David Rhoades; three brothers and four sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Graveside Service and Interment: 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2015, English Grove Cemetery, Fairfax.
There is no scheduled family visitation.
