Mary Helen Scribner

Mary Helen Scribner , 95, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Maple Crest Care Center, Belvidere, Illinois surrounded by her family. She was born September 23, 1915 in Lone Star, Missouri, the daughter of Ed and Maude(Runyan) Siddens. She attended Atchison County schools.
Helen was united in marriage to Erwin “Bill” Scribner on May 12, 1934 in Rock Port, Missouri. They farmed and made their home in the Tarkio, Missouri area until 1944, when they moved to Shenandoah, Iowa. In 1945, they moved back to Tarkio where Helen worked as a phone operator, and then as a bookkeeper for Lyle Rolofson. In 1956, Helen worked at the Flesher Pharmacy Drug Store until it closed. In 1972, Helen and Bill purchased the Mustang Motel in Syracuse, Nebraska. In 1993, due to Bill’s health, they sold the motel and moved to Farragut, Iowa. Helen remained in Farragut until 2004, when she moved to Maple Crest Care Center, Belvidere, Illinois to be closer to her family.
Helen loved to garden and tending to her flowers. She was a wonderful cook and loved to can the vegetables and fruit from her garden. Helen was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tarkio, Missouri, where she was a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years. Helen was a loving mother, wife, sister, grandmother and friend.
Survivors include her son, Arnold Ray (Carol) Scribner, of Rockford, Illinois; one grandson Curtis (Jennifer) Scribner, of Rockford; three great-grandchildren, Ryan (April), Nick (Lisa), Traci (Doug) of Rockford; six great-great-grandchildren, Ashley, Alexis, Liviya, Colton, River and Jace, all of Rockford; brother Rex Siddens of Rock Port, Missouri and sister Alta Marie Kirk of Riviera, Texas. Predeceased by husband Bill in 1994; her parents, brother, William Siddens, sisters Kathleen Colwell and Laverne Bogart.
Services: 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the Tarkio Baptist Church, Tarkio, Missouri.
Interment: Rose Hill Cemetery, Shenandoah, Iowa
The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the Tarkio Baptist Church.
