Mary Margaret (James) Spurlock, the daughter of Dean and Eva (Sly) James, was born April 7, 1911 in Rock Port, Missouri. Mary Margaret graduated from Rock Port High School and attended State Teachers College, Maryville, Mo.

 

For a short time, Mary Margaret taught rural school around the Burlington Junction – Tarkio, Missouri area. She was later employed at Bob Fay’s hardware store, sold life insurance for Kansas City Life and prepared tax returns. She spent most of her life however caring for her home and family.

 

Mary Margaret was a dedicated lifetime member of the Rock Port United Methodist Church and an active member of the Rock Port PEO Chapter DU.

 

Mary Margaret spent her 95th Birthday in her home with family and friends. In December of the same year she chose to go the Pleasant View Nursing Home where she passed away on the 24th of November 2009.

 

Besides her parents, Mary Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert John Spurlock, who passed away in 1978 and one brother, J.D. James.

 

Survivors include one son, Stephen Spurlock, and his wife, Myrna, Maryville, Missouri; one daughter, Lynn Spurlock, Seattle, Washington one brother, Robert (Bob) James and daughter JoEllen; grandchildren, Lori Spurlock, Leslie Spurlock, Lisa Spurlock, Stephen Spurlock, Jennifer Adams and husband Scott, Claire Spurlock-Cohen and her husband Eric Fadiman; great grandchildren, Jessica Adams, Nicholas Adams, Dashiell Fadiman and Amelia Fadiman.

 

Memorial Service:
11:00 am, Saturday, November 28, United Methodist Church, Rock Port.
Inurnment: Elmwood Cemetery, Rock Port.
The family will receive friends 10:00 – 10:50 am, at the church prior to service.
Memorials may be directed to the Rock Port United Methodist Church or Atchison County Library or Rock Port PEO Chapter DU Local Scholarship Fund.
