Maureen Claire (Nicholas) Hess, the daughter of Aden DeLoss and Wilda L. (Weland) Nicholas, was born October 30, 1946 in Maryville, Missouri. She attended Hopkins Missouri public schools, graduating high school in 1964. After working for a year at the Clarinda Company, Maureen attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville and graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music.
On July 24, 1971, Maureen was united in marriage to David Keith Hess at the Hopkins Christian Church, in Hopkins. They made their home in Fairfax and Tarkio before moving to rural Rock Port. Maureen taught music in Westboro, Craig, Fairfax, and Rock Port, Missouri, retiring in 1995. At that time they moved to their home in Westboro, where she presently lived. David passed away June 9, 2003. Maureen passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Center Point Medical Center, Independence, Missouri at the age of 61 years.
Maureen was a faithful member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she sang in the Cantata choir, and was also a member of WELCA, St. John’s Couple’s Club, and the Red Hat Society. She gave piano lessons for many years, and enjoyed cooking and visiting with her many friends. Most of all Maureen loved spending time with her children and husband.
Besides her parents and husband, David, Maureen was preceded in death by several aunts and uncles. Survivors include one son, Marlin D. Hess and one daughter, Loralei M. Hess, both of Kansas City, Missouri; step-sister, Ruthie Owens and her husband Wayne, Hopkins, and step-brother, Ronnie Koger, Shenandoah, Iowa.
The family wishes to give an extra special “thank you” to Dr. Aron Burke. We so appreciated all of the care and concern you had for our mother, as did she. We know that she felt you were a very special person. You are a true servant and a compliment to your profession.
