Michael A. Umbarger

1959-2018

Westboro, Missouri

 

Michael A. (Mike) Umbarger, the son of John Duane and Laveta Vaun (Payton) Umbarger, was born August 27, 1959, in Fairfax, Missouri.  He attended Fairfax High School, Fairfax.

 

On November 14, 1987, after deer hunting, Mike and Julie (Bogenreif) Hull rushed to the Tarkio Baptist Church and were united in marriage.  They honeymooned in their deer stand.  Mike became a father to Julie’s daughter, Krystal, and later they became the parents of daughter, Karly.  They made their home in the Tarkio and Westboro, Missouri, areas their entire married life.

 

Mike was employed by Tarkio Tire and Henning Farms.  For the last 18 years, he was employed by the Atchison County Highway Department until the present time.

 

Mike was a member of the Westboro Volunteer Fire Department.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping at the Missouri River or anywhere that you could cook a hot dog or catch a fish.  Mike passed away Sunday, October 14, 2018, surrounded by his family, at his home in Westboro at the age of 59.

 

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by stepfather, Harold (Stony) Stone and sister, Dorothy Renee Umbarger.  Survivors include wife, Julie Umbarger, Westboro; two daughters, Krystal Anderson and husband, Ryan, McFall, Missouri, and Karly Alsup and husband, Garrett, Tarkio; grandchildren, Cole, Brody and Audrey Anderson; siblings, Shirley Rhoades, Becky Chastain and husband, Pete, all of Fairfax, Duane Umbarger and wife, Kristy, Tarkio, and Billy Stone and wife, Paula, Craig, Missouri; brother-in-law, Gary Bogenreif, Westboro; sisters-in-law, Sherry Anders and husband, Bill, Papillion, Nebraska, Lori Wilczek Kent, Polo, Missouri, and Margee Hendrickson and husband, David, Carter Lake, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M., Thursday, October 18, 2018, Westboro United Methodist Church, Westboro.

Interment:  Center Grove Cemetery, Westboro

Open visitation begins 9:00 A.M., Wednesday, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, where the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M.
