Michael Scott Richards was born in Manassas, Virginia, on June 20, 1970, to Bill and Shirley (Cook) Richards. He was proceeded in death by his mother, Shirley Richards. He is survived by his father, Bill Dean Richards; older brother, Bryan Richards, sister, Samantha Alexander, brother, Bill R. Richards, and sister, Deanna Volker. Nephews, include Bryce Richards, Brandon Richards, Brady Richards, Matt Sloop, Codie Sloop, Jeremy Sloop, Nathan “Nate” Sloop, Logan Richards, nieces, include Brook Richards, Virginia Richards, Candice Volker, Gretchen Volker, and numerous great nephews and great nieces and cousins.

 

Scott graduated from Rock Port RII School, Rock Port, Missouri in 1988, and he enlisted in the Army the same year. He was stationed in Korea for one year, and then went to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he went to air assault training. When Scott was discharged from the Army, after serving in Desert Storm, he was in a serious accident that left him paralyzed. He went to Walter Reed in Richmond, Virginia to have rehab for his disability. Scott faced many challenges but as the rock he was, he overcame the challenges.

 

He then went on to learn I.T. from Guilford Technical Community College in Jamestown, North Carolina, and graduated on the President’s List with an associate’s degree in I.T.  He moved back to Rock Port in 2002 where he took care of his family with great pleasure for many years. Scott then moved to Saint Louis, Missouri with his father who was very instrumental with all that he accomplished over the years. He was very active in the Paralyzed Veterans of America and other various activities to which included snow skiing, trap shooting, snorkeling, and Bocce ball, where he competed for the United States in international competition, and he won multiple medals. Scott passed away Sunday, November 3, 2024, in St. Louis, at the age of 54. Scott had a very kind heart and loved his family, and he was their rock in life. He will be truly missed but never forgotten.

 

Graveside Service with Military Honors: 2:00 P.M., Saturday, November 23, 2024, St. John’s Cemetery, Westboro, Missouri.

The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the St. John’s Lutheran Church Fellowship.

Memorials: Paralyzed Veterans of America.

Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Local Arrangements: Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port, Missouri.
