Nina Mildred (Hughes) Davenport, the daughter of Charley Alvin and Rosey Belle (Roberts) Hughes, was born February 17, 1929 east of Fairfax, Missouri on the Raymond Carpenter farm. She was one of fourteen children, having 8 brothers and 5 sisters. Nina attended school in Tarkio, Missouri, graduating from Tarkio High School in 1947.

 

On November 25, 1947, Nina was united in marriage to Owen Eugene Davenport at the Atchison County Court House by Judge Savage. They made their home in Tarkio their entire married life. Nina and Owen enjoyed 63 years together. As a young girl, Nina worked for Ruth Dragoo at the Tumble Inn Restaurant in Tarkio and in later years was employed by Betty Prather at the Atchison County Fashion Center for 8 years. During her life, she was a homemaker, a waitress and a sales clerk and was a member of the Tarkio Baptist Church. Nina passed away Monday, March 15, 2010 at the Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Tarkio at the age of 81 years.

 

Besides her parents, Nina was preceded in death by infant twins, Tuckey Owen and Kerry Lynn; seven brothers, Lonnie, Lomman, Oliver, Arley, Weldon, Cecil and Richard and three sisters, Delsie Jackson Leek, Fay Henson and Delphie Davis. She is survived by her husband, Owen Davenport of their home in Tarkio; son, Randy Eugene Davenport and his wife, Linda, Burlington Junction, Missouri; three grandchildren, Chris Davenport, New London, Missouri, Brian Davenport and his wife, Traci, Maryville, Missouri and Jennifer Nielson, Burlington Junction; seven great grandchildren, Micaela Davenport, Nicholas Davenport, Nathan Davenport and Mackenzie Davenport, New London, Brianna Davenport and Jacob Davenport, Maryville and Anastyn Nielson, Burlington Junction; two sisters, Genevieve Bywater, Pilot Grove, Missouri, Vila Boydston, Nixa, Missouri; one brother, Lonnie (Jr.) Hughes, Stuart, Iowa; 24 nieces and 25 nephews.

 

Services: 11:30 am, Thursday, March 18, 2010, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
Interment: Center Grove Cemetery, Westboro, Missouri.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10:30 to 11:20 am at Davis Funeral Home.
Memorials: Tarkio Nutrition Center.
