Ortel Eugene (Gene) Lininger
1942 – 2017
Rock Port, Missouri

Ortel Eugene “Gene” Lininger, the son of Loren O. and Mildred Pauline (Whited) Lininger was born July 21, 1942 in Maryville, Missouri. He graduated from Rock Port High School, Rock Port, Missouri in 1960. Later that year, Gene graduated from refrigeration school in St. Joseph, Missouri.

In 1960, Gene was united in marriage to Judy Smith and they became the parents of; Shelly Jane, Randall Eugene, and David Ray. They later divorced. On July 17, 1976, Gene was united in marriage to Janet Lee “Jan” Schraeder. In 1979, they built a home on Red Star Road, northwest of Rock Port where they lived to the present time.

Gene was formerly employed by the Atchison County Co-Op and Atchison Holt Electric, both of Rock Port. Gene then owned and operated Lininger Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning for over 45 years. Gene passed away surrounded by his family Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 74.

Gene was a former Boy Scout Leader, Little League Baseball coach, Rock Port Park Board member, Rock Port Golf & Country Club Board President, and served on the Rock Port Volunteer Fire Department for 16 years. Gene was a member of the Rock Port Masonic Lodge #157, A.F. and A.M. and the Scottish Rite Valley of St. Joseph, Missouri.

Besides his parents, Gene was preceded in death by, son, David Ray Lininger, sister, Edna Mae Lininger, and brother, Thomas Ray Lininger. Survivors include wife, Jan Lininger, Rock Port; children, Shelly (Mark) Cofer, Rock Port, Randy (Stephanie) Lininger, Shawnee, Kansas, Teresa (Bill) Runkles, Nebraska City, Nebraska, Jeff (Wanda) Blasnitz, Gretna, Nebraska, Kim Schraeder, Weston, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Josh (Sarah) Runkles, Jake Runkles, Summer Lininger, Lauren Cofer, Taylor Cofer, Morgan Cofer, Brooke Lininger, Blake Lininger, Nick Blasnitz, Laura (Tyson) Ruhge; three great grandchildren, Graceyn Lininger, Lily Runkles and Kale Runkles, and nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services:
10:00 AM, Tuesday, April 4, 2017, First Lutheran Church, Rock Port.
Interment: Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax, Missouri.
The family will receive friends 9:00-10:00 AM, Tuesday, First Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall.
Memorials: Rock Port Volunteer Fire Department.
