Owen Eugene Davenport, the son of Fred Earl and Melva May (Hume) Davenport, was born on February 7, 1927, in Fairfax, Missouri. He was one of 10 children, having three brothers and six sisters. He attended Fairfax and Tarkio, Missouri, schools.
On November 25, 1947, Owen was united in marriage to Nina Mildred Hughes at the Atchison County Courthouse by Judge Savage. They made their home in Tarkio their entire married life and enjoyed 63 years together before her passing on March 15, 2010.
Owen worked as a lineman with Missouri Service and St. Joseph Light & Power for 34 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union. Owen passed away Thursday, March 17, 2011, at Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care, Tarkio, at the age of 84 years.
Besides his parents and wife, Owen was preceded in death by infant twins, Tuckey Owen and Kerry Lynn; and nine siblings, Earl Frederick, Ida Pearl, Bergl Alfred, Kathryn Udora, Hollis Hope, Ruth Angela, Jessie Pauline, Charles Edward, Eunice Louise. He is survived by his son, Randy Eugene Davenport and his wife, Linda, Burlington Junction, Missouri; three grandchildren, Chris Davenport, New London, Missouri, Brian Davenport and his wife, Traci, Maryville, Missouri, Jennifer Nielson, Burlington Junction; seven great-grandchildren, Micaela Davenport, Nicholas Davenport, Nathan Davenport, Mackenzie Davenport, all of New London, Brianna Davenport and Jacob Davenport, both of Maryville, and Anastyn Nielson, Burlington Junction; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services:
2:00 p.m., Monday, March 21, 2011, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
Interment: Center Grove Cemetery, Westboro, Missouri.
Memorials: Tarkio Nutrition Center.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 1:50 p.m., Monday, March 21, 2011, at Davis Funeral Home.
