Patricia J. “Patty” Laur, the daughter of Walter and Lois (Wood) Gutsch, was born on January 29, 1925 near Westboro, Missouri. Patty grew up in the Westboro area and graduated from Westboro High School in 1944.

On August 11, 1945, Patty married Charles Lee Broermann of Westboro, and they became the parents of one son, Larry.  Lee and Patty farmed in the Westboro area, but Patty was well known to farm families throughout Atchison County for her work at Rolf Fertilizer in Rock Port, where she tracked accounts and greeted customers. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Westboro where she especially enjoyed teaching children in bible school. Lee passed away in 1986.

On December 28, 1996, Patty married George Laur (also a life-long member of the community), at St. John’s Lutheran Church. They made George’s home theirs for the next 22 years, enjoying family and community. Highlights included being members of the Westboro United Methodist Church, serving meals at Lord’s Acre Day, participating in the Relay for Life and working on Westboro community betterment projects. Patty enjoyed spending time cooking for family gatherings, working in her flower and vegetable gardens, and feeding the squirrels and birds, then watching them from the kitchen window. She passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at a Lincoln, Nebraska hospital at the age of 94.

Besides her parents and husband, Lee, Patty was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Lou Holdridge.
