Peggy Carlene Jones, the daughter of Carl D. and Elizabeth (Farmer) Nichols was born November 3, 1934 in Mangum, Oklahoma. Peggy graduated in 1952, from Garvey Hill Mark Keppel High School in Los Angeles, California.

On July 1, 1954, Peggy was united in marriage to Leonard Monroe Jones in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and they became the parents of three children, Leonard, Jr., Deborah, and Bradley. They made their home in Azuza, California until 1967 when they moved the family to Sacramento, California. In 2002, they retired and moved to Arizona before making a final move to Rock Port to be closer to their daughter Debby and her family. Peggy passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017, at her home in Rock Port.

Peggy spent 35 years employed as a credit counselor for both Sears & Roebuck and Breuner’s Furniture Store in Sacramento, California. Peggy loved spending time with her family and taking care of her grandchildren, shopping, and dining out. Before Alzheimer’s robbed her of the ability to read, you could find her sitting up until early morning reading Stephen King or one of her Health books.

Besides her parents Peggy was preceded in death by Son Leonard, Jr., sister, Kathleen and brother-in-law Jim Lawhead, two brothers, Melvin Douglas and Thomas Ray Nichols. Survivors include, husband Leonard, Sr., Rock Port; daughter, Deborah Miller and her husband, Ken, Rock Port, son Bradley Jones and wife, Laura Jean, Sacramento, California; grandchildren, Joseph, Billy, Elizabeth Jones, Sacramento, California; Jennifer Blakeman, Rock Port; Brandon Blakeman and wife Kirsten, San Diego, California; Steven Jones, Rock Port; Carlene Jones, Sacramento, California; local step-grandchildren Samuel Miller and wife Karen, Rock Port; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Anneliese Clauson, Rock Port; Trevor Jones, Adam and Alan Penn, Sacramento, California; Cassondra Jones and Marissa Proctor, Colorado; Christain Jones, Lorelai and Hayden Jones, Sacramento, California; local step-great grandchildren, Ethan, Hannah, Reed, Claire, and Grant Miller, Rock Port; one great-great grandson, Elliott Proctor, Colorado; sister, Imogene Scott, Rock Port, and brother David Nichols, South Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service:
2:30 PM, Monday, July 17, 2017, Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
Interment: Greenhill Cemetery, Rock Port.
Open visitation will begin 10:00 AM Sunday at Minter Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends at the Atchison County Memorial Building following the interment.
