Philip R. Clark, the son of Ray L. and Mabel (Sloane) Clark, was born October 27, 1931, in rural Tarkio, Missouri. Phil attended South York Country School through the eighth grade and Tarkio High School, graduating in 1949. After graduating, Phil worked on the family farm and for local surrounding neighbors on their farms.
In 1951, Phil married Dixie Ottmann and they became the parents of three children, Karla Rae, Wanda Jean, and Roger Duane. They were later divorced. Phil worked at the local John Deere dealership in Tarkio until it closed and at the Excel Beef Plant. On June 21, 1974, Phil married Roberta Noland Merriett and they became the parents of one son, Tim.
Phil enjoyed fishing, farming, and any machinery work. He continued to work spring and fall harvest until his retirement. Phil’s greatest enjoyment was his family. He was a member of the Tarkio Baptist Church, Tarkio Lions Club and Tarkio Rodeo Board. Phil passed away Friday, May 18, 2018, at his home in Tarkio at the age of 86 surrounded by his family.
In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death by brothers, Kim Clark, and Kent Clark, and sisters, Shirley Carlisle and Margie Clark. Survivors include wife, Roberta, of the home; children, Karla Chambers and husband, Jimmy, Westboro, Missouri, Wanda Hall, Tarkio, and Roger Clark and wife, Teresa, Excelsior Springs, Missouri, and Tim Clark, Maryville, Missouri; step-children, David Merriett, Tarkio, Byron Merriett and wife, Melissa, Burlington Junction, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Clark and wife, Anna, Belton, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 22, 2018, First Baptist Church, Tarkio.
Interment: Center Grove Cemetery, Westboro, Missouri
Open visitation begins 9:00 A.M., Monday, May 21, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio. The family will receive friends from 10:00 -10:50 A.M., Tuesday, prior to the service at the church.
