Just found out a few minutes ago through this website about Mike's passing in 2012. After so many years, I don't know if anyone will ever see this. But I wanted to say to Marcia and Mike's daughters, grandchildren and other family members how deeply Mike's life influenced me when I was in college at Iowa State. Mike was serving with the Navigators and I had just become a Christian when we met. Mike was the first person to disciple me. He led me and 3 other guys in a Bible study in Friley Hall for two years. It would be impossible to over estimate the impact he had on our lives. One of our group became a pastor, still serving in Minnesota, and I became a missionary to Asia. Mike taught me how to have a quiet time, memorize scripture and share my faith. It was under Mike's discipling that I came to make Jesus Lord over many areas of my life. I have so many fond memories of him and his faithfulness. I hope time has healed the grief of losing Mike at such a relatively young age, but I hope the memory of him stays with you and inspires you as his life has inspired mine.

Kaleigh and I were deeply sadden to hear about Mike's passing. Kaleigh had played basketball with a team called the Runnin Rebels a few years ago and he was one of the coaches. She said he was always really nice. He was a good coach and boy did he know basketball! We are keeping his family in our prayers.

Marcia and family- I was so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I have many memories of Mike from Green Valley's youth group. I am certain I never conveyed enough (or any) appreciation to him for everything he did. He truly had a servant heart. He will be missed.

Just found out about this! My heart is with all of Mike's family and friends. He was one of my son, Curtis', favorite high school teachers and he taught him so much about life also!! He also was a very caring neighbor. Will miss seeing his smiling face. Take care!! 🙂

Marcia and family, Mike was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed. I often ran into him when shopping in Maryville and enjoyed catching up. Just a few months ago, we visited in HyVee and talked together about teaching, our families, classmates, etc. I'm so glad that we were able to do that. Please know that I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Charlotte

I have such wonderful memories of the time Mike and Marcia came to our house for a Fall cookout. We ate and enjoyed good conversation into the wee hours of the morning. When you were with Mike and Marcia, you never wanted them to leave. Mike, you will be so missed. It was an honor to know you!

A classmate, and long time friend, Mike is so responsible for my coming to the Lord in November 1987. Mike was so patient with me making excuses why I wasn't ready to take that step of accepting the Lord as my savior. But he never stopped praying for me. Mike, you will be sorely missed, and a big void will be there, but that void will be filled with a lot of great memories of our conversations, and time spent together. You've left a great legacy for all who knew you. Your brother in Christ-Roy

Marcia & Family, Mike was a wonderful man who made a great impact on the lives of my 3 older children, Dustin, Dillan and Amberlee. I will always be grateful for the Christian example he set for them. They loved him, and are going to miss him terribly. He was such a kind, caring man, and truly walked a Christ-like life. We enjoyed the short time we attended your Church, and Pastor Mike's sermons. He will always be in our hearts, and you and your family will be in our prayers.

Pastor Evans was such a special man with his infectious smile, gentle nature, and time for everyone. He often stopped at my workplace on Sunday mornings before services and made a special point of speaking to me and often sharing a scripture as he passed through. It was much appreciated and won't soon be forgotten. No earthly words can replace your heartache. God's love will give you peace and understanding. Sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear about Mike. I have many fond memories of Sunday afternoons when his sister Judy and I would be hanging out talking about boys and Mike was being the pesky little brother. Who would have thought he would grow into such a caring, compassionate adult. He will be missed.

Dear Marcia & family, we were so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. Though we've had very little contact over the last several years, his investment in our lives was very significant back in our college days. I have no doubt that such is the case for so many as you all have followed the Lord in constant obedience, impacting lives, encouraging, challenging and blessing along the way. May He be your source of peace that passes all understanding. Our love, Don & Paula Cabeen

So many times, I taught lessons that I swore my students would never forget. With experience came a new understanding that the most valuable lessons were beyond what we could teach from our books. Mr. Evans understood this. That is why he was loved by so many. Looking into his eyes, we saw a kind and gentle man who taught us something about a beautiful thing called grace. What a blessing it was to work with such a man. His lessons will not be forgotten.

Mike, you are missed already. I know we lost touch over the last few years and now I wish it had never happened. You were a huge part of my life at a critical point, that not many are aware of. Thank you for those prayers and late night conversations...you've raised such an awesome family and I have always loved how you and Marcia showed each other the love a marriage is to have, even in the most difficult of times. I will miss you, but cannot wait to see you once again in heaven.

May your memories, and the joy that he brought to you help in the days ahead. I pray that your memories will bring smiles to your face. What a comfort to know he is with Jesus. And what an Honor for all of you that you could call this amazing man, Dad. Anna, please let me know if I can help in anyway. Praying for all.
