Raymond Marvin Brusha, the son of Jess Tiffany and Anna Frieda (Poppa) Brusha, was born September 21, 1921 in Langdon, Missouri. He attended country schools in the Red Star, Langdon and Nishnabotna, Missouri area.

On July 16, 1942, Marvin enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served his country in the Philippines and Los Esperitos Islands during World War II. Marvin was a top secret cryptographer. While in the Philippines, he decoded the famous message from General McArthur confidently proclaiming “I have returned.” He received his honorable discharge on December 18, 1945 and returned to Rock Port.

On June 9, 1946, Marvin was united in marriage to Evelyn A.G. Davis in Hiawatha, Kansas. They made their home in Rock Port, where Marvin drove a truck for Raymond Ottmann and a tank wagon for Standard Oil. Marvin later worked as the parts manager for the Ford Motor Company in Rock Port for 17 years, and was then employed with the Missouri Department of Transportation from 1969 until his retirement in October of 1984.

Marvin was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Rock Port. In November of 2008, Marvin was recognized for 50 years of service as a Master Mason and had also served as past Grand Master for the North Star Masonic Lodge # 157 AF & AM. He was also a 50 year member of the Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49, both of Rock Port. Marvin umpired baseball games for years, and was scouted by the Chicago White Sox to become a major league umpire. He turned down the offer because he wanted to stay close to his family. Marvin passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Rock Port at the age of 87 years.

Besides his parents and wife, Evelyn, who passed away in 2006, Marvin was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Hamersky and three sisters, Anna Ohrt, Frieda Curtis-Green and Roberta Olson. Marvin is survived by one son, Raymond V. Brusha and his wife, Jolena, Boulder, Colorado; two daughters, Carolyn Seek and her husband, Pat, Alamo, Texas and Becky Brusha, Bellevue, Nebraska; three grandsons, Troy Seek, Derrick Fuller and Eric Brusha; three granddaughters, Tammy Brendle, Tiffany Raymer and Katya Brusha; seven great-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.
