Richard D. Howell

1936-2019

Rock Port, Missouri

 

Richard Dean Howell, the son of Alfred and Stella (Price) Howell, was born May 29, 1936, in Nishnabotna, Missouri. He attended Atchison County, Missouri, country schools, Rock Port High School, Rock Port, Missouri, and Fairfax High School, Fairfax, Missouri, graduating in 1954.

 

In 1962, Richard was united in marriage to Mary Frances Welch. They became the parents of two sons, Bill and Tony. They later divorced. Since the 1980’s, Joyce Tunnell was his loving companion, until her passing in 2017.

 

Richard was employed at Boulware Chevrolet from 1953 to 1959. Richard then served in the United States Army, and was stationed in Germany from 1959 to 1961. From 1964 to 1968, he owned and operated King and Howell D-X Service. In 1968, Richard was employed by Harold Dean King at Kings Auto Parts in Rock Port. In 1990, Richard and his son, Bill, purchased the store where Richard worked until retiring in 2007.

 

Richard passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at Community Hospital- Fairfax, Fairfax, at the age of 82.

 

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by four brothers, Jerry, Lloyd, Marion, and Bill Howell, sister, Beverly Howell, and companion, Joyce Tunnell. Survivors include two sons, Bill Howell and Tony Howell, both of Rock Port; two grandchildren, Katie Romines and husband, Tyler, Tarkio, Missouri, and Nick Howell and wife, Shadie, Rock Port; two great-grandchildren, Zoey Romines and Bradley Howell; sister, Shirley Fansher, Maryville, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

There will be no visitation or memorial services.
